Rain Pain

 

With over half of the action on day one washed out it was going to take some very sporting declarations to achieve a result, and it seems most captains erred on the side of caution. Only 2 results were achieved in the top 2 grades, both where the team bowling first made major inroads on day 1.

Upper Ferntree Gully had Mountain Gate reeling at 5/48 when rain stopped play and early on day 2 the Gators were dismissed for 59, adding 11 runs in 12 overs. Jay Colee didn’t add to his day 1 haul (3/12) but it was Robbie Birnie who weaved his magic to take 5/17. Chasing quick runs Upper Gully may have lost some early wickets and at 4/34 Mountain Gate would have had a sniff, but it was a steady inning by Aaron West (45) that got Upper Gully to 98. Russell Wilson bought 4 wickets at the cost of 24 runs off his 2.1 overs for Mountain Gate. In their second dig the Gators held on to end the day 5/50. The win sees Upper Gully move into 5th place by percentage from 4th placed Upwey.

Upwey's Cam Wheeler kept his name at the forefront of the umpires minds with 6/75 including an hat Trick to go with his 59 as Upwey Tecoma and Knoxfield fought out a draw. Josh Lindner nearly doubled his Norm Reeves wicket tally with 6/82 for the Knights. Upwey almost batted their allocated overs to post 229 with Steve Moore (41) and Nick Whitty(39) helping the cause. Left 37 over to chase the points Knoxfield went hard with Wilson (33), Boxell (48), and Scholfield (56) all contributing before the Hat trick halted the run chase on 8/191.

Ferntree Gully ended day one on 2/109 off 27 overs with skipper Mark Teofilo (70) the only wicket to fall to the bowlers, Jake Evans having retired on 32. Day two saw the Blues bat on for 41 overs with Benjamin Swift (64) and Bryce Galvin (33) contributing to set Knox Gardens a target of 273 for victory off 39 overs. Despite the early loss of Small and Morsello, Jackson Marget (33) and Jarrod Butcher (43) held on before play ended with the score on 2/92 with 11 overs remaining.

The Basin and Johnson Park played out a draw with Blake Walter (91), Jake Best (51), and Jayden Turcinovic (34*) getting the Bears to 5/253 before the declaration, setting The Sharks 42 overs to achieve a result. The game was called with 5 balls to spare at the fall on Andrew Devenish's wicket for 72 and Johnson Park at 4/145 with Ben Stallworthy making 34*.

Eildon Park batted on for 30 overs with Rasika Tennekumbura(67) and David Smyth (37) the main contributors to give Belgrave a target of 212 off 50 Overs. The Magpies chase finished at 8/152 with Johnathon Level top scoring on 48, Nathan Caton Roberston took 4/53 for the Panthers.

In DeCoite Sheild Rowville claimed the points over Olinda. The Bloods were 5/60 last week before being dismissed for 66. Rowville then took 30 overs to reach 2/185. Louis Holmes (72*) and Darren Hill (52) lead the way for the Hawks allowing 43 overs to achieve an outright. The Bloods had other plans as Dominic Woodfield (52*) made sure the game was called. With all other games ending in a draw, Rowville has consolidated 3rd spot
