GATORS BITE BACK AGAINST MAGPIES

 

Clint Buckland produced a superb century on the opening day of Round 3 to help propel Mountain Gate to a competitive target against Belgrave.

 

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Gators lost an early wicket then consolidated with Luke Bowyer aiding with 69, before Buckland launched on his way to 103, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. For the Magpies, Michael Litterbach was the pick of the bowlers with 4/58 as Mountain Gate finished the innings at 7/304 to set an interesting target for the home team next week.

 

Knox Gardens toiled hard with the bat all day in their encounter against Upper Ferntree Gully. Skipper Jarrod Butcher knocked around with 30, however Todd Burley finished with figures of 5/45 to keep the Falcons to 164. Commencing their innings in the last hours of Day 1, the Kings will go into next week at 1/14.

 

It was a team batting performance at Upwey with several contributors to the score against Johnson Park. Cameron Wheeler (73) and Jordan Dunstone (71) both scored half centuries as the Tigers spent the day at the crease to finish on 278. For the Sharks, Tom Nash claimed 6/62 to help restrict the target.

 

An interesting state of play at The Basin with Ferntree Gully dismissed for 144. Ben Carnell (4/14) and Jake Sherriff (4/52) ran riot against the Blues to restrict the total. With a low target to defend, Ferntree Gully made in-roads on setting up an intriguing position at stumps, having claimed 4/98 with next week to play.

 

Knoxfield batted all day with a number of starts in their innings against Eildon Park. Zac Wilson (68), Tom Boxell (58) and Matt Train (50) all made half centuries as the Knights made 295. For the Panthers, Monto Perera lead the attack with 4/88, with Steve Pimm supporting with 3/46.

 

In Decoite Shield, South Belgrave posted 9/215 in their innings against Lysterfield. Daniel Cormack (59) and Rob Barry (54) were amongst the runs to set the target for the Beavers, with Adam Kinniburgh staring with the ball with 6/69.

 

Monbulk has already claimed the points against Olinda thanks to a masterclass from Jason Fraser. Olinda was dismissed for 96 – Tim Scott providing resistance with 35 – with Fraser claiming 6/21. In response, the Hawks are cruising at 2/104, Shane Cosstick unbeaten on 52 not out.

 

Rowville batted all day against Knoxfield to set a mammoth 6/339, thanks to a Brett Gatehouse century. Gatehouse tallied up 117 across the day, with Louis Baird’s 79 helping to ensure the Knights were chasing a large target next week.

 

Ferntree Gully Footballers batting lineup was on duty in their encounter with St Johns Tecoma. Nick Bogar provided the goods again with 57, supported by a number of players including Brendan Morris with 50 not out, with the Griffins reaching 8/250 to set the Saints a substantial target.
