RAMS TOO GOOD FOR GULLY

By Steve Brown

A squad of enthusiastic FTGDCA Country Week players ventured to Jubilee Park Ringwood where they took on Premier Club the Ringwood Rams in the annual T20 challenge on Wednesday.   Ringwood skipper Brendan Walsh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bryce Galvin (Ferntree Gully) and Connor Hyde (Belgrave) opened the bowling for the Gully as Ringwood’s Dave Johnson displayed some aggressive stroke play, blasting 54 from just 37 balls.   The Rams were cruising at one stage 3/125 after 14 overs before Steve Bowen (Upper Gully) 1/13 from 3 overs and Knoxfield off spinner Zac Wilson (4/24) from 4 overs stemmed the flow of runs to a total of 8/168 off 20 overs.

In reply, FTGDCA opening pair Joe Morsello (Rowville) and Australian Country X1 player Nathan Walsh (Lysterfield) placed the Gully in a winning position with the first wicket falling in the 6th over with 48 runs on the board.     Walsh was bowled for 17 by his brother Brendan, before Morsello fell with the score on 96 for a quick fire 57 with eight boundaries.  Tom Boxell was caught for 27 off the bowling of former Templeton player Jordan Roberts.

Roberts, swung the momentum in Ringwood’s direction as the Gully lost five wickets for just 3 runs before Galvin struck some towering blows in his 25 as the FTGDCA was all out in the final over for 143, going down by 26 runs.

Jordan Roberts finished with match winning figures of 5/15 whilst Zac Wilson won the best player award for FTGDCA. Many thanks to Mark Freeman and the Ringwood Cricket Club for their hospitality.
