KINGS TAME THE TIGERS
By Steve Brown

Upwey Tecoma had a fall from grace when they were demolished for just 89 in perfect batting conditions at the weekend to complete round 10 of the Norm Reeves Shield. Set 239 the previous week by Upper Ferntree Gully, the Tigers were in serious trouble early in the day being five for not many and simply could not recover. Upper Gully’s Todd Burley, the spearhead of the association in Country Week continued his brilliant form snaring 4/28 and he received support at the other end from Jay Colee with 3/24.

Ferntree Gully collected another win, this time at the expense of Belgrave. The Blues lost only 3 wickets in pursuit of 222 with the ground work done by opener Harrison Brown (83) and Jayden Bradbury (56). The pair added 98 for the second wicket as the Magpies attack could not break through.

An unbeaten century to Knoxfield’s Trent Scholfield helped the Knights easily account for Mountain Gate by 110 runs. Talented high order batsman Jack Taylor (76) and Tom Boxell with 50 signalled to the rest of the competition that they mean business at the pointy end of the season.

Monbulk 299 gave The Basin a scare going down by 44 runs at Monbulk Recreation Reserve. Chris Coen batted for most of the day reaching 105 whilst work horse Scott Vozzo bowled 19 overs for a return of 3/76 and took four catches. Monbulk have been more than competitive with the bat this season and have been let down by the bowling attack.

Eildon Park opening batsman Cody Morris continues to dominate the competition as he peeled off his third century for the season, this time against Knox Gardens. Chasing a modest 161, the Panthers were 3/193 when Morris reached his ton and he decided that the Falcons had seen enough of him for the day, pulling stumps early. Morris has now amassed more than 500 runs for the season.

In Decoite Shield Olinda scored their second win of the season against St Johns Tecoma with nine wickets in hand. Adrian Willoughby remained 110 not out for the Bloods in a terrific knock. Matt Sutherland gave Rowville a lesson as he blasted a century for South Belgrave securing a win by three wickets. Johnson Park had reason to celebrate their 50th year when they downed top side Footballers with off spinner Steve Devenish taking 5/50 and Lysterfield was too powerful for Knoxfield.
