Valiant Effort
The FTGDCA Under 12 Gold Side made its way into the VMCU Kieth Mitchell Shield Final against South East Cricket Association on Sunday 22nd of January at Carnegie.

Winning the toss and sending SECA in the team soon had them reeling at 6/59 and then 8/106 before the tail got them to 9/147 off thier allotted overs. Jai Johnstone (Upper ferntree Gully) with 2/16 and Tyler Evans (Eildon Park) 2/17 were the best bowlers as they held 7 catches.

In reply Tyler Evans compiled 34 in a lone stand that saw us bundled out for 76.

Coming from 7th spot to secure a finals berth was a fantastic effort by not only the team but the Support staff of Matt Blackman, Ken Taylor, Chris Harrison and Col Clausen. Thanks also to all the Parents involved for thier support and assitance.
Their Carnival opened with losses to West Gippsland and Inner South East before win against Mornington Peninsula, a draw with Ringwood and a victory over Dandenong saw them sneak into the Qualifying finals in 7th Spot.

Facing 2nd placed Box Hill the team restricted Box Hill to 6/114 off their allotted 30 overs. In reply we lost 5 wickets (including 3 runouts) in making 122 off 28 overs to seal the win.

The Semi Final saw the team take on Inner South East, who had bowled us out for 79 earlier in the week. On this occasion the tables were turned as our bowlers did the work dismissing them for 55 in 19.4 overs before posting 4/60 off 23 overs.

Individual performances were shared over the carnival although Trishane De Silva (Rowville) (199 runs and 6 wickets) and Rory Harrison (Footballers) (136 runs and 5 wickets) both did well with bat and ball. Percy Hyett was the leading wicket taker with 9 scalps and managed 88 with the bat. Tyler Evans (Eildon Park) led the Way in the feild with 6 catches.

Head Coach Matt Blackman was very excited by the transformation in his young team and was looking forward to the challenge on Sunday.

We wish the team and support staff all the best for Sunday's grand final
