SKY’S THE LIMIT

Former and current FTGDCA players have reached higher levels in their chosen fields in the past few days.   Former Eildon Park junior Sam Harper (picture Below Left) scored 41 for a Victorian X1 against the touring South African team before knocking up 80 in the current Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia.    Nineteen year old Harper was elevated to the state team with the promotion of Matthew Wade to the Test side.

Lysterfield’s Nathan Walsh and The Basin’s Jake Best were selected on Sunday in the Victorian Country team to play in the Australian Country Championships in Wollongong NSW (Jan 2-12, 2017).    Knoxfield’s Tom Boxell has been named as an emergency for that squad.       Best is the first Basin player to be selected in the VCCL team and it will be his first appearance in state colours whilst Walsh was a member of the squad last season and will be vice-captain of the team.     Prior to the tournament, the Victorian Country X1 will play the annual match against the Sub District X1 at Mansfield on December 11.

At junior level, our best known female cricketer and Knox Gardens all-rounder Tess Flintoff gained selection in the Victorian female U/15 squad to play National Championships in Canberra commencing January 18.     Tess, 13 is expected to bat at number 3 in the carnival and in the lead up played her first Premier Women’s T20 game for Ringwood against Prahran, where she bowled an over to Australian player Jess Cameron (picture Below Right).

In other news, former FTGDCA Junior Cricketer of the Year,  Josh Begley (Upper Gully) has been drafted by AFL club Essendon.

We congratulate them on their selections and wish them well.
