Runfest in Norm Reeves Shield

Knoxfield posted the highest total in a Division 1 grand final in 27 years as they finished the day on 8/356. Knights skipper Tom Boxell called correctly at the toss of the coin and set the stage for a batting masterclass. The loss of their first wicket at 35 brought Boxell to the wicket to join Ben Gerloff (40), putting on a partnership of 48 before Gerloff was dismissed. When Trentin Scholfield took on Ben Carnell and lost Knoxfield were 3/88 and The Basin were tightening the screws with Carnell and Josh Lee restricting the runs. Matt Train's dismissal in the 50th over saw Knoxfield sitting at 4/128 as Jack Taylor strode to the wicket.

In the next 21 overs the Knights added 148 runs with Boxell run out for 100 off 180 balls. Jack Taylor's innings came to an end with the score on 319. Taylor scored 127 off 84 balls hitting 11 boundaries and clearing the boundary 9 times. The Basin strived hard all day using 7 different Bowlers. Jake Sherriff bowled 26 overs for his figures of 1/93 but it was Nick Freeling who finished with 3/41 off his 6 overs.

The Basin will have to make the most of their opportunities tomorrow. There has only been 4 other occasions when today's score was surpassed in a first grade grand final with Belgrave's 441 in 1977/78 being the highest score, although the games were 100 overs per innings.

In DeCoite Shield Lysterfield looked to continue their finals form with the ball as Ferntree Gully Footballers fell to 5/66 inside 31 overs. When former Sri Lanka A player Tharanga Lakshita joined Radik Gooneratne at the wicket Lysterfield's Adam Kinniburgh had three scalps. The Footballers pair then added a 94 run partnership to wrestle back momentum. Lakshita was dismissed first ball after drinks for 62 after an amazing catch by Ryan Hicks gave Kinniburgh his 4th wicket. Gooneratne, who played 7 premier 1st 11 games for Hawthorn, was dismissed for 66 with the score on 184 before the Beavers closed out the innings with the score on 211.

With a score on the board this game will depend on which player seizes the moment.
